Your Skin Is Beautiful

We all have insecurities, many of us being insecure about our skin. Spots, blemishes, scars, freckles, birthmarks, a lot of us have them, some worse than others, and they can actually really affect the way that we see ourselves.

We all have what we like to call 'good skin days' and 'bad skin days,' the good ones being when our complexion is as clear as possible, but why not make every day a good skin day!?
It is really important that we learn to accept our skin for what it is and realise that there is no such thing as an imperfect complexion.

It is totally normal to feel insecure about acne and any other facial 'imperfections' as they are called, although that is definitely not what they are, and, when we see them on our own faces, we often forget that 99% of the rest of the world are suffering from them too! We often feel very alone and as though everyone is staring at us when they see a spot or two on our face, but that definitely isn't the case.
Acne is so common these days, not just in teenagers, so the chances of someone thinking nasty things about you if they see you walking down the street with spots on your face are very slim, especially as, in today's world, humans are often very selfish and are only concerned about what they look like themselves! :)
There are many reasons why we get spots. Annoyingly, the most common one which many people seem to think it is down to is "YOU EAT TOO MUCH CHOCOLATE!" which is wrong. Yes, junk food doesn't do your skin many favours, but spots can also be caused by a number of things, such as stress. A stranger who sees you on the street will not know the reasons why you have acne, so leave them to wonder! Their opinions on your skin do not change your worth and believing that acne makes you ugly will not make it go away.

Personally, I have suffered with acne for years now and it has made me extremely insecure about my appearance, especially as it covers my chest and back as well as my face. My acne is nowhere near as bad as some people's but it is important to remember that, just because someone else has it worse, it doesn't mean that you can't feel insecure about it.
I have seen doctors and dermatologists on many occasions and have been prescribed insane amounts of creams, gels, face-washes and tablets but have now come to the conclusion that none of them will work! It is all down to what works best for you and your skin and, sadly, none of the products I tried would I say they "worked," not for a long period of time anyway.
Of course, everyone's skin is different, which is what makes it beautiful, so some things may work wonders for you so, if you are suffering from bad acne, perhaps see a doctor or try whatever looks good from the drugstore! You never know!

However, after feeling really insecure about my skin, I began wearing make-up in October last year at the age of 15, which is super late in life these days! I remember going to get my skin colour matched for foundation in Debenhams with my Mum and buying my first foundation product from Clinique, If you are looking for make-up to cover acne, I would definitely recommend them as a starting point as they do some great anti-blemish solutions items!
Make-up makes me feel ridiculously better about my appearance, not because I am using it as a mask to hide behind, but because it makes me feel more confident and covers up my insecurities. Plus, it is super fun to play around and experiment with!

Wearing make-up (both males and females that is! <3) can work wonders and I so wish I began wearing it sooner. If you want to start wearing make-up because of your skin problems, perhaps speak to your parents or friends and discuss it with them! There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing it if it makes you happier. :)

One annoying thing about my skin, however, is that, even when spots go, they leave scars so if anyone has any tips for me on how to get rid of them, could you maybe please let me know? :D I have better days and worse days when it comes to how many spots I have but hope to start accepting my skin more for what it is in time. It is still a challenge for me to go outside without wearing make-up but I am slowly getting there! Here are some recent photos of my skin without make-up:

Our skin is what makes us US. It is part of who we are and, let's be honest, if everyone had acne-free skin, the world would be a boring place! Having birthmarks, acne, blemishes, or anything else which you may consider ugly is a form of art. See them as pieces of confetti which the fairies above sprinkled on you to help you shine even brighter!
Being confident in your skin doesn't just come overnight, it takes time, but if you work at it, it will happen! Start slowly. For example, if you too struggle going outside without make-up on, remove things gradually. Take away one product at a time rather than just going totally bare-faced straight away!

If there is one thing that I want you to take away from this blog post, it is that you and your skin are BEAUTIFUL! I promise that there is absolutely no need to feel ashamed about your skin because, at the end of the day, that's all it is! It is just a cover for the true beauty that lies underneath in the form of your amazing personality!
Begin to love your skin and be proud of it. Spots and scars do not determine your self-worth and, plus, nothing lasts forever! It may take time, but they will eventually fade!

Perhaps you could challenge yourself to post a selfie on social media without make-up! The Internet is a wonderful place and it took me a lot of courage to be able to include my photos in this blog post but, what's the worst that can happen? Posting them wouldn't make my spots any worse and the majority of the people I have encountered online are absolute balls of sunshine! :)
You and your face are perfect and it would be amazing if you began to believe that and also told other people that too!

Now go my lovely ones, run into the world and show off your lovely face! :)
