Golden Globes Fashion 2017

Ahh, the Golden Globes, the first big red carpet event of the year and a chance for the biggest names in the acting industry to throw on their finery and have jolly good time in a positive, supportive atmosphere whilst being in with a chance of winning an award or two. I say that they just 'throw on' their finery, but we all know the stars who grace the red carpet on the night spend hours getting ready beforehand with a team that consists of more people than I have friends.
However, all the effort it takes for them to get ready is always worth it as the red carpet is always filled with celebrities who look a million dollars and this year was no exception. The 74th Golden Globes took place last night and, as per usual, social media users and the press just could not wait to see what the attendees were going to be wearing. Many liked to tease their fans with 'pre dress' pics, such as Hailee Steinfeld, just to increase the anticipation.

I always look forward to catching up on the night's events when I wake up in the morning (because my timezone clearly does not want me to experience nice things as they are happening) and so, this morning, I was eager to see what beautiful gowns and suits worked their magic on the red carpet. As always, I was not disappointed and so I thought I would share my favourite looks of the night with you.

Felicity Jones
Many chose to wear pink this year but Felicity Jones' gown was one which really caught my eye. She opted for a lightweight Gucci dress with beautiful black embroidery across the bottom and ruffles along the neckline, as well as a sparkling silver bow at the waist, which was pulled in and made the skirt look like a tutu. Her hair and make-up was natural and I have to say that I am a big fan of her fringe.

Kristen Bell
Many chose silver sparkle but Kristen Bell chose to glisten in black sequins with this Jenny Packham dress. Its a little more interesting than your average LBD and has a rather low-cut neckline to make it more youthful. I love this look - it isn't too extravagent but it seriously works.

Jessica Biel
Elie Saab's gowns always turn heads on the red carpet and this one worn by Jessica Biel definitely did. With a plunging neckline and high split up the textured skirt, all eyes were on Jessica in this dress but she looked amazing and pulled off a look which I know I never could. She finished the look off with some simple Salvatore Ferragamo heels.

Anna Kendrick
Anna kept things simple in a grey Vionnet dress but, in this case, simple certainly does not translate as 'boring.' Her grey gown was the perfect choice for her as it complimented her shape and made her look both elegant and fierce simultaneously. I especially love the crossover at the top as it adds something a little more to an otherwise simply strapless dress. Oh, and red lips were definitely the right choice for this look, don't you think? What a beauty.

Hailee Steinfeld
I seem to have developed quite the obsession with Hailee Steinfeld over the past year and she is showing no signs of disappointing me. Purples and pinks proved popular outfit colour choices on this year's carpet and Hailee had no issues with looking lovely in lilac with this Vera Wang Collection dress. The thin material had many layers for the skirt with a more sheer top half and a split in the middle. It just looks so beautifully crafted and make Hailee look every inch the Disney Princess.

Lily Collins
Everyone is talking about Lily Collins, and rightly so. She always owns the red carpet and this year she blew everyone away in a simply mesmerising Zuhair Murad Couture dress with absolutely gorgeous floral detailing. She wore a red lip, to which people may think "Ooh, red and pink together?" but yes, she pulled it off no problem and looked ever so elegant and classy. This is one of my favourite looks from the night and, if this is what Lily Collins is wearing to the first big bash of 2017 then I cannot wait to see what else she has up her sleeve for the coming months.

Emily Ratajkowski
Em Rata sets pulses racing wherever she goes, whatever she wears, and her dress was one of the most talked about at this year's Golden Globes and, surely, you can see why. I mean, just look at it. That's all I can say, just LOOK at it. Emily was my best dressed of the night (alongside Lily) and the colour of this dress gives me serious Belle from Beauty and The Beast vibes. Her golden gown was by Reem Acra and her jewellery was from H.Stern. Ugh. What a babe.

Brie Larson
Brie Larson was one of the few attendees to opt for a red look but that only made her stand out. Plus, she looked incredible regardless. She went for a Roarte strapless pleated chiffon gown with a beaded tulle bodice and teamed it with Forevermark jewellery and a complementary red lip and her hair loosely curled, swept to one side - a rather simplistic look but will red, strapless gowns ever go out of style? Brie's look was effortlessly chic and classy.

Priyanka Chopra
Didn't Priyanka look like royalty in this outfit? Her golden dress was by Ralph Lauren and, despite not having any fancy splits, layering or cut outs, it flattered her figure and truly made her the belle of the ball, a golden Goddess. The berry lips were an excellent choice too, as was the statement necklace by Lorraine Schwartz.

Sienna Miller
Sienna Miller wore a beautiful Michael Kors Collection dress. It was plain white with a cutout at the waist, giving it a more modern feel. Her look was by no means the most eye catching but it was pure, refreshing and simply stunning, especially with the Tiffany & Co. jewellery.

Evan Rachel Wood
Everyone seems to be talking about Evan Rachel Wood and this Altuzarra Custom tuxedo...and rightly so! Women and suits is always a great combination and this lady pulled off the androgynous look with ease. She wasn't draped in jewels or having to lift the train of her flowing frock from the floor every two seconds but she oozed sophistication and glamour and made looking hot just so damn easy.

Emma Stone
Emma Stone's was a vision in Valentino in a dress that perfectly complemented her skin tone and allowed her natural beauty to shine through by not being too over the top or in your face. This dainty, delicate gown made her look pretty and feminine whilst catching everyone's eye at the same time. Emma Stone looked like a Princess, its simple.

Blake Lively
Blake Lively can do no wrong in most people's eyes and she didn't let those rooting for her down on the red carpet last night. She went for a plain, velvet black Atelier Versace dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. The dress had a slight train as well as co-ordinating pockets and a neckline, which sparkled and added a little something special to the look. Her make-up was kept to a minimal and hair in a high bun but, really, that's all Blake needs to look good.

Sarah Jessica Parker
SJP looked pretty in a white Vera Wang Collection dress with cut out shoulders, puffy sleeves and a low neckline. She kept it simple and tied her hair away from her face in milkmaid braids, adding an almost medieval vibe to her overall look. She looked adorable and ever the Goddess we all know her to be.

Gina Rodriguez
Isn't she just a disco ball personified? Gina wowed in a Naeem Khan dress, which surely glistened beautifully when it caught the light, and she accessorised with some subtle Chopard jewellery although, her dress certainly did all the talking. This is one of my favourite gowns from the night as its bold but not gaudy and adds a perfect amount of glamour to such a prestigious event.

Chrissy Metz
Chrissy Metz looked radiant in this deep purple, velvet gown, accessorised with Kimberly MacDonald jewellery. The jewelled detailing around the waist and wrists give the dress a regal touch and I think this is one of those fabrics which will always work on the red carpet.

Octavia Spencer
YAY for more women in suits! Octavia wore a navy Laura Basci tux buttoned all the way, something a little different and more relaxed than your traditional black suit and white shirt. It totally worked though and she showed that she knows how to slay a suit with ease. She teamed it with matching blue heels and a clutch.

So. who do you think was best dressed this year? <3

Love, Emily :) xx
